The Music Genome Project
This is an interesting idea.
Take a band, or a song that you like, input it into a program that compares your choice through a complex algorhythm comparing beats, meters, harmonies, melodies, chord structure and other such musical terms, and see the results.
So far, Barenaked Ladies yielded "The Tears of Audrey" by Kevin Gilbert, "Tales of Endurance (Part 4, 5 & 6)" by Supergrass, "Green" by Sister Hazel, "The Best Thing" by Richard Page, "Island in the Sun" by Weezer, "Buffalo Nickel" by Great Lakes Myth Society and it's still coming up with new choices.
